The Spurs captain is said to have wanted to remain close to the club amid the current relegation fight.

Instead, Argentine kinesiologist Luis Garcia travelled to England to help oversee Romero’s recovery process directly.

Romero has now shared an update on his recovery process on his Instagram story. The Tottenham defender is back doing outdoor training and appears to be moving freely without any pain or restriction in his knee.

This comes after we reported last week that his knee braces were gone. You can watch Romero’s training footage here:

🚨 NEW: #thfc Captain Cristian Romero has posted a video on his Instagram, showing that he is back on the grass and completing individual sessions. 📲🇦🇷

The Argentine has been out since mid-April after Brian Brobbey’s needless push, leading to a collision with Antonin Kinsky. pic.twitter.com/Adp3VJt0r7

— Spurs Army (@SpursArmyTweets) May 18, 2026

View Tweet

Spurs likely to remain cautious with Cristian Romero return

The big question, though, is whether Romero can still play for Tottenham this season. In all honesty, that now looks very unlikely.

Spurs have just two more games left before the season ends, with Chelsea on Tuesday and Everton on Sunday, May 24. Those clashes could come too soon for the Argentine defender.

If Tottenham secure their Premier League status against Chelsea, there will be little sense in risking the World Cup winner in a dead-rubber game against Everton, especially with the international break only a few weeks away.

The Argentine is now most likely to return to action in a friendly fixture for Argentina in preparation for the World Cup this summer.

Have something to tell us about this article? Let us know

[4

post-10315","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
