If you enjoy Chelsea News coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.<\/em><\/p>\n Chelsea have managed to land Xabi Alonso as their new manager, against the odds, and the long reads are now coming out about how that all went down.<\/p>\n The Athletic\u2019s piece today is all about Alonso\u2019s arrival and why the Blues went for him.<\/p>\n Interestingly, it\u2019s Alonso\u2019s style of play that seems to have played a major role in him getting the Chelsea job \u2013 and counted against him replacing Arne Slot on Merseyside.<\/p>\n \u201cAlonso is viewed as being of the same school of coaching as (Enzo) Maresca\u2026 offering a measure of continuity on the pitch,\u201d the Athletic report.<\/p>\n \u201cOne club source voiced a desire to avoid the kind of jarring transition represented by Chelsea moving from Antonio Conte to Maurizio Sarri in the summer of 2018, necessitating big changes to the squad.\u201d<\/p>\n We\u2019re not sure fans will be delighted by the idea of going back to a patient, Maresca-style approach.
