{"id":10811,"date":"2026-05-19T18:43:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=10811"},"modified":"2026-05-19T18:43:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:43:43","slug":"argentine-star-to-become-first-alonso-signing-as-he-is-heading-to-stamford-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=10811","title":{"rendered":"Argentine star to become first Alonso signing as he is \u2018heading to Stamford Bridge\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div><!-- Article Start --><\/p>\n<p>Chelsea are set to make Valentin Barco their first signing since the club\u2019s owners, BlueCo, announced Xabi Alonso as their manager, according to two sources.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Chelsea officially named former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss <strong>Alonso<\/strong> as their manager from July 1.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso parted ways with Real Madrid in January, and although there have been strong rumours linking him with Liverpool, the Spaniard has decided to accept the managerial role at <strong>Chelsea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It has now been reported by two separate sources that Valentin Barco will become the first signing for Chelsea under Alonso.<\/p>\n<p>Barco is at Chelsea\u2019s sister club Strasbourg at the moment, having made the switch to the French outfit in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Argentina international midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Strasbourg from Brighton and Hove Albion, before the deal was made permanent in the summer of 2025 for \u00a37.9million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: \u20ac75m Chelsea star wants to leave after Xabi Alonso becomes manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Valentin Barco bids farewell to Strasbourg<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Barco has already bid farewell to Strasbourg, writing on <em>Instagram<\/em>: \u201cToday I say goodbye to this club that I really looked forward to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this year and a half many good times passed, including the best of our lives\u00a0@yaz.jaureguy\u00a0on 03\/28\/2025 when Gemma was born.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always left everything on the field at every game for this shirt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank my teammates who made everything easier for me,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiam and his staff for the confidence they gave me and for making me the player I am, Gary and his staff for understanding me and helping me improve, to everyone who works at the club and us they accompany and support me every day and to the fans for the love they always gave me.<\/p>\n<p><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBHBZX42AQ\" style=\"width: 100%;
