Atletico Madrid have made Marc Cucurella their primary target in defence this summer according to reports in Spain.<\/p>\n

The Spain international arrived at Chelsea from Brighton in the summer of 2022, in a deal worth up to a reported \u00a362m.<\/p>\n

Cucurella has two years left on his contract, and whilst he signed improved terms last year, his deal wasn\u2019t extended.<\/p>\n

Cucurella has spoken out against the Chelsea project, but remains an important part of the team, and a player you\u2019d imagine new manager Xabi Alonso would want to keep.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard, like many of his team-mates hasn\u2019t been at his best this season, but losing\u00a0 him would be a major blow.<\/p>\n

Cucurella has made no secret of being open to a return to Barcelona, where he came through the ranks, but there appears to be another Spanish side interested.<\/p>\n

Spanish publication Marca have reported Atletico Madrid have made Cucurella their primary target in defence this summer.<\/p>\n

The report adds the fact Alonso holds Cucurella in high regard could make any potential move difficult, and the 27-year-old would be a significant investment for Diego Simeone\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

Cucurella has scored one goal and registered four assists in 49 appearances in all competitions this season, and it\u2019ll be interesting to see if Chelsea offer him a new deal this summer.<\/p>\n

Chelsea officially announced the appointment of Alonso on a four year contract on Sunday, and he will begin work on July 1st.<\/p>\n
