Enzo Fernandez stole the show for Chelsea as the Blues kept their European hopes alive with a crucial 2-1 victory over Tottenham.<\/p>\n
Fernandez opened the scoring via a beautiful strike before he set up Andrey Santos to take the game away from Spurs in the second half.<\/p>\n
The Blues took the lead through the Argentine inside 17 minutes, with the midfielder striking from 30-plus yards to beat Antonin Kinsky.<\/p>\n
Stamford Bridge, at times this season, has been extremely quiet but Fernandez’s goal, the manner of it and the opposition as well, had the stadium rocking. It erupted once again in the second period when Santos scored from close range to double Chelsea’s advantage.<\/p>\n
Richarlison grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal for Tottenham not too long after Santos scored.<\/p>\n
The win for the Blues means they go into the final-day fixture against Sunderland in eighth place. Similar in the second. 6<\/strong><\/p>\nJosh Acheampong <\/strong>– First start in the league in more than three months. Struggled a bit. Not at his best but perhaps to be expected given his lack of football in recent times. 6<\/strong><\/p>\nWesley Fofana <\/strong>– Got very frustrated with Conor Gallagher at one point. Solid defensive display, minus a couple of wobbles. 6<\/strong><\/p>\nJorrel Hato <\/strong>– The Dutchman made a vital interception early on but there was a collective gasp around Stamford Bridge as the ball looked – for a second – as if it was heading past Robert Sanchez. Apart from that, Hato did well in the backline. A match-saving block to deny James Maddison late on. 7<\/strong><\/p>\nMarc Cucurella <\/strong>– Early on, Randal Kolo Muani was finding all sorts of space down Cucurella’s side. He seemed to figure it out as the game went on, though, and showed some attacking threat himself. Headed it into no man’s land for Spurs’ goal. 5<\/strong><\/p>\nAndrey Santos <\/strong>– The Brazilian midfielder made a really important stretching tackle in the first half to prevent a dangerous-looking counter-attack from Tottenham. Great moment for him to score in such a big fixture. 8<\/strong><\/p>\nMoises Caicedo <\/strong>– Alongside Santos, the two looked really strong in there. They have shown glimpses of that when playing together in the past, but perhaps, collectively, that was their best performance. 7<\/strong><\/p>\nPedro Neto <\/strong>– Played a big part in the second goal of the game. Apart from that, the Portuguese failed to make too much of an impact. 6<\/strong><\/p>\nCole Palmer <\/strong>– Started brightly. Looked as if there was some much-needed urgency when he was on the ball. That showed when he played an important role in the opening goal of the game, starting the attack for the hosts. Not as impactful in the second half, but overall it was much, much better. 7<\/strong><\/p>\nEnzo Fernandez <\/strong>– An absolute screamer from Fernandez to open the scoring. The Argentine was getting some stick from the Spurs supporters in the early exchanges, so it was only fair he gave it back to them after breaking their hearts with a thumping strike. Big-game player. 9<\/strong><\/p>\nLiam Delap <\/strong>– Struggled again. It’s really difficult to see what he offers this Chelsea side at the moment. He got better as the game went on but his impact was minimal. 5<\/strong><\/p>\nTrevoh Chalobah (on for Acheampong 74′) <\/strong>– Defended well when he came on at Stamford Bridge. 6<\/strong><\/p>\nMamadou Sarr (on for Fofana 81′) <\/strong>– Nice to see him. N\/A<\/strong><\/p>\nShim Mheuka (on for Delap 89′) <\/strong>– First Premier League appearance of the season. N\/A<\/strong><\/p>\nAlejandro Garnacho (on for Neto 89′) <\/strong>– Not enough time to make an impact. N\/A<\/strong><\/p>\nDario Essugo (on for Palmer 89′) <\/strong>– See above.
