{"id":11837,"date":"2026-05-22T23:23:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T23:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=11837"},"modified":"2026-05-22T23:23:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T23:23:36","slug":"chelseas-victory-over-spurs-adds-fresh-intrigue-to-europa-league-and-europa-conference-league-qualification-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=11837","title":{"rendered":"Chelsea&#8217;s victory over Spurs adds fresh intrigue to Europa League and Europa Conference League qualification races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelsea\u2019s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday has added more intrigue to the race for Europa League and Europa Conference League places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos gave the Blues a two-goal cushion before Richarlison scored a consolation goal for Spurs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sixth-placed Bournemouth clinched one of the Europa League spots following their 1-1 draw against Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brighton &#038; Hove Albion, Brentford, Sunderland and Chelsea will compete for the remaining qualification spot for the competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Seagulls are one point clear of Chelsea, but must beat Manchester United to seal Europa League qualification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A draw could be enough to clinch the Europa Conference League spot, while they could miss out on European qualification completely if they lose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelsea would have guaranteed their Europa League berth if they had beaten Manchester City in the FA Cup final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Blues now need to win at Sunderland and hope Brighton drop points. They could miss out on Europe altogether without a victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brentford are level on points with Chelsea.
