Xabi Alonso won\u2019t be below the sporting directors and will in fact be on par with them according to journalist Matt Law.<\/p>\n

Alonso has signed a four year contract at Stamford Bridge, and will officially begin work on July 1st with Chelsea facing a critical summer.<\/p>\n

The Blues need to add reinforcements in a number of key areas of the squad, as they look to get back into the Champions League next season.<\/p>\n

Xabi Alonso will be on par with Chelsea sporting directors<\/h2>\n

The appointment of Alonso is seen as a real coup, and the players are said to be excited to work under the Spaniard.<\/p>\n

In a change from both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Alonso has been given the title of manager rather than head coach, which in theory signifies a greater degree of control.<\/p>\n

Quite where that puts Alonso in the sporting hierarchy with the five sporting directors isn\u2019t entirely clear, but Law has stated he won\u2019t be below them.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe won\u2019t be below the sporting directors,\u201d he told the London Is Blue Podcast.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe will be on par with them, he would be able to go in there and say, this just isn\u2019t working, whether it has to be someone who goes or we have to scrap this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Silva would give Chelsea the experience, leadership and winning mentality they are missing in the squad, but at this stage it\u2019s hard to imagine a move materialising.<\/p>\n
