Danny Murphy believes the appointment of Xabi Alonso makes sense for Chelsea, and he\u2019ll play the football the fans want to see.<\/p>\n

Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Alonso on Sunday, and the Spaniard has signed a four year contract at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

Alonso will officially begin work on July 1st, with Chelsea facing a crucial summer, and one they can\u2019t afford to get wrong.<\/p>\n

Getting Alonso through the door is a real coup Chelsea, and the players are understood to be excited to work under him.<\/p>\n

Trevoh Chalobah has already spoken of his excitement at the arrival of Alonso, and he\u2019ll certainly command the respect of the dressing room from day one.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old will reportedly have a say in transfers, which wasn\u2019t the case under Maresca, whilst he\u2019s\u00a0 been given the title of manager instead of head coach.<\/p>\n

Alonso has stated he can\u2019t wait to get started at Chelsea, and Murphy has now had his say on the appointment.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did a brilliant job at Leverkusen, he\u2019s an intelligent man,\u201d he told BBC Sport.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to play the right type of football that Chelsea fans want to see, the players will enjoy working with him. It makes sense for a progressive club. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest thing for Chelsea is not actually who they appointed as manager, the biggest thing is changing tact on their transfer policy, because unless they get a bit of experience and a bit more know-how, they\u2019ll see more of the same.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
