Atletico Madrid are preparing to revive their long-standing interest in Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella this summer, with the Spanish international understood to be open to returning to his home country despite incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso reportedly viewing him as an integral part of his plans at Stamford Bridge, according to Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cucurella\u2019s future at Chelsea has become one of the more intriguing subplots of what promises to be a busy summer window at the club. The 27-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract, which under normal circumstances would give Chelsea considerable leverage. The complicating factor is the player himself. He is keen on a return to Spain, and Atletico\u2019s renewed push comes at a moment when the conditions for a transfer are more aligned than at any previous point in his time in England.<\/p>\n

The most significant obstacle for Atletico is not the fee, it is Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard, confirmed as Chelsea manager from July 1, has reportedly made clear that he does not want Cucurella to leave.
