Football pundit Gary Neville believes that Chelsea are now going to be heavily relying on Xabi Alonso to sort them out.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The club is an absolute mess, but the appointment of Alonso has been a very positive move. However, a toxic and awful season so far became even worse yesterday when Chelsea lost 2-1 to Sunderland to miss out on any kind of European football for next season, and finish 10th in the league. It\u2019s completely embarrassing for the owners who will go into their 5th season in charge at the club next season, once again not playing in Europe. They couldn\u2019t even manage the Conference League qualification.<\/p>\n

Neville says it\u2019s been a disastrous season for Chelsea but to be honest, that is putting it kindly. Alonso is now being looked at as the saviour at the club, but he\u2019s got a huge task on his hands now.<\/p>\n

Asked whether Alonso had \u2018one hell of a job on his hands\u2019 after Chelsea ended their campaign with defeat at Sunderland, Neville said on his <\/span>Sky Sports podcast: \u2018Yeah!<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019ve been talking about how big a job Roberto De Zerbi has at\u00a0Spurs,\u00a0Xabi Alonso has to do exactly the same there at Chelsea.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s\u00a0been made the\u00a0manager\u00a0but he may as well have been called manager, sporting director, owner, the lot.<\/p>\n

\u2018It seems like\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0given him the keys to the club and asked him to sort it out because Chelsea are struggling, what a disastrous season\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been for them.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n
