Tottenham Hotspur reportedly contacted another Italian manager before they secured the services of Roberto De Zerbi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Things were looking very bleak for Spurs when De Zerbi arrived through the door to replace Igor Tudor at the end of March.<\/p>\n

The Italian has undoubtedly instilled belief in the Spurs players as well as the fan base, and has overseen a big improvement in performances. In just a matter of seven games, he already has a crowning achievement in N17 \u2013 saving Tottenham from relegation.<\/p>\n

Only time will tell if De Zerbi can take Tottenham back up into the European places next season. It has now emerged that Spurs also contacted another manager before hiring the 46-year-old.<\/p>\n

According to talkSPORT, Enzo Maresca has agreed a three-year contract at Manchester City and is set to take over from Pep Guardiola at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the report reveals that Marseca, who departed Chelsea on New Year\u2019s Day, was approached by multiple clubs over recent months, including Tottenham.<\/p>\n

It is asserted that Spurs reached out to the Italian coach\u2019s agent, Jorge Mendes, after parting ways with Tudor back in March.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid and AC Milan also allegedly contacted the former Chelsea boss, but there is no suggestion that Tottenham or the two other clubs offered him the job.<\/p>\n

Spurs are setting their sights high next season under De Zerbi<\/h2>\n

Now that Tottenham have secured their Premier League place for next season, reports indicate that Spurs are ready to back De Zerbi with substantial funds this summer as he oversees a rebuild of the squad.<\/p>\n

Some pundits have suggested that the Italian coach can get Tottenham challenging for Europe next season if he keeps them up.<\/p>\n

It looks like the first two signings through the door will probably be Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi as De Zerbi looks to instil some more experience and leadership.<\/p>\n
