Tottenham\u2019s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon left-back Maxi Araujo may be about to get a whole lot complicated ahead of the summer window.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While Spurs\u2019 focus for the moment will be on securing their place in the Premier League, it appears that the Lilywhites have already started making tentative plans for the summer window.<\/p>\n

Spurs Web has relayed a number of reports over recent weeks stating that Tottenham are eyeing a summer move for Sporting Lisbon star Maxi Araujo, as they look to strengthen at left-back.<\/p>\n

In fact,\u00a0the Lilywhites have made regularly made scouting trips to Portugal to watch the Uruguayan, but they are not the only Premier League club tracking the player.<\/p>\n

Man United ready to challenge Tottenham for Maxi Araujo<\/h2>\n

It was reported last month that Spurs could face competition from Chelsea for Araujo this summer, and another Premier League giant have now reportedly joined the race.<\/p>\n

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United have now set their sights on the left-back, who has amassed 10 goal contributions so far this season.<\/p>\n

The report reveals that United are looking for a long-term alternative to Luka Shaw and they have set their sights on taking Araujo to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

It is suggested that Michael Carrick\u2019s men have the financial means to secure the services of the 26-year-old.<\/p>\n

How much is Araujo expected to cost this summer?<\/h2>\n

CaughtOffside back up what other outlets are claiming by stating that the left-back has a \u20ac80m (\u00a370m) release clause in his contract, but Sporting are willing to sanction his departure for \u2018a reasonable fee\u2019.<\/p>\n

The outlet claims that a bid of around around \u20ac50m (\u00a343.4m) is expected to be enough to price Araujo away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium.<\/p>\n

However, a Portuguese outlet suggested a little over a week ago that Sporting are working to tie down the Spurs target to a new contract.<\/p>\n
