Cole Palmer has wasted no time in showing new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso that he refuses to let World Cup heartbreak get the better of him. The Chelsea playmaker was surprisingly overlooked by Thomas Tuchel when the England squad was named ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n
Palmer netted in the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain and was widely regarded as England’s creative talisman for the foreseeable future. Yet his exclusion followed a difficult campaign at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n
He struggled with injuries and a loss of form, managing just 11 goals across all competitions. England, however, appear to have coped well in his absence, progressing to the quarter-finals where they face Norway on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
Palmer, though, looks utterly determined to make an impression on his new manager. The former Manchester City man seems resolute in his desire to knuckle down and return stronger following his World Cup snub.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old featured in a training montage shared on Instagram by football coach Harry King of Football Kings Coaching. Clips showed the forward looking razor-sharp in sunny conditions as he worked through shooting drills, honed his dribbling and sharpened his passing,<\/p>\n
Debate surrounding Palmer’s absence grew louder after England laboured against Ghana, Panama and DR Congo in the group stage and last-32 respectively. While he appears firmly fixed on the campaign ahead under Alonso, the player has acknowledged he could have added something to Tuchel’s squad.<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Times, Palmer said: “Every player that plays football wants to be at the World Cup, but it’s a decision that I cannot change and a hard one, for whatever reason. But I’m just trying to enjoy the summer off – the first summer I’ve ever had off.<\/p>\n

I know what I could have offered, you know – something different to what the manager has picked. But like I said before, I can’t change the decision and I wish everyone all the best.<\/p>\n
“Naturally. It’s like anything: if you’re told you’re, essentially, not good enough then you’re going to want to prove people wrong. So yeah, I guess so.”<\/p>\n
The Chelsea star has also emphasised the positive aspects of his extended break from football. Speaking to iD magazine, he said: “I’m not crying over a decision you can’t change, and I hope the lads make it all the way.<\/p>\n
