Alejandro Garnacho is on the transfer list at Chelsea just one season after moving to Stamford Bridge from Man Utd.<\/h2>\n <\/p>\n\n

It was in the bowels of San Mames late into the night of May 21, 2025, when Alejandro Garnacho took a match to the fuel that had been gathering on his Manchester United career.<\/p>\n
Garnacho had already been left out of a Manchester derby squad by Ruben Amorim six months earlier, but while Marcus Rashford remained cut adrift, Amorim actually praised the young Argentine winger for the way he reacted.<\/p>\n
It seemed that the shot across the bows had worked, and that Garnacho was delivering what Amorim wanted now. The head coach said the academy graduate had “changed everything” six weeks later and the future seemed bright.<\/p>\nGet YOUR Man United Newsletter<\/h3>\n\n

To get it, it’s a simple one-two punch.<\/p>\n

Garnacho could be used as a No.10, and he could drift wide, but it wasn’t a system he found easy and it didn’t naturally get the best out of him. It was going to require work.<\/p>\n
But he did start every knockout game on the run to the Europa League final in 2024\/25, contributing three assists in those games. Yet when it came to the final, he was on the bench and kept back until the final 20 minutes of a drab and desperate defeat to Tottenham.<\/p>\n
Afterwards, Garnacho stopped to speak to foreign media and unloaded. He questioned Amorim’s decision to leave him out, said “our season was s**t” and that United had beaten nobody. He then left his future open before walking away.<\/p>\n
If Garnacho was undecided over his future, Amorim made the call for him, famously telling him he better “pray” he can find a new club in a team meeting two days after the final.<\/p>\n
It would be fascinating to know now whether Garnacho regrets how his United career came to an end. He was the boy wonder at Old Trafford, the tricky winger who captivated fans in the run to the FA Youth Cup final triumph in 2022 and the kind of player supporters adored.<\/p>\n
His form could be inconsistent, but he was still young. Had he stuck it out, it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a key role on the left wing under Michael Carrick, back in a system designed to get the best out of wide men.<\/p>\n
Instead, he let his frustration grow and showed a lack of patience. He set his sights on Chelsea but while the project at Stamford Bridge can be fixated on signing young players, just as many fail as succeed, and Garnacho will live in the former category.<\/p>\n
One year after joining the club for \u00a340million, he is effectively on the transfer list and could be sold this summer. Our colleagues at football.london report a permanent exit is on the cards, although a loan move won’t be considered.<\/p>\n
Chelsea actually opened the bidding at \u00a325million last summer, so this was a triumph for United’s negotiating skills, and if the fee looked short a year ago, it looks very good now. No club will be getting close to matching it this summer, and United will be due some of any sale as well, with a 10% sell-on clause included.<\/p>\n
The sale of Garnacho was trumpeted as one of Amorim’s great successes. The way he ruthlessly cleared out the dressing room of problematic players was his legacy, and Garnacho and Jadon Sancho top that list. He took the same approach with Marcus Rashford.<\/p>\n
Garnacho is still only 22. He has time to fulfil his talent, but there are warning signs flashing. Had he knuckled down, continued to show a good attitude and tried to make it work at Old Trafford, he might well be in a much better place than the predicament he currently finds himself in.<\/p>\n
