{"id":15195,"date":"2026-07-08T00:04:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=15195"},"modified":"2026-07-08T00:04:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:04:31","slug":"new-york-city-high-rise-building-evacuated-over-fears-of-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=15195","title":{"rendered":"New York City high-rise building evacuated over fears of collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><!----><time class=\"time\" datetime=\"Tue Jul 07 2026 12:53:51 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)\">7 hours ago<\/time><!----><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"title\"><!--(-->&#8216;Extremely serious situation\u2019 is unfolding in Manhattan as building \u2018remains unstable&#8217;: Mamdani<!--)--><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div><!--(--><!--(--><!----><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday that an \u201cextremely serious situation\u201d is unfolding in Manhattan Tuesday following the evacuation of a high-rise building over fears that it may collapse.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>&#8220;Around 8 a.m. this morning, FDNY received reports of a structural issue at an active construction site on East 42nd Street between Second and Third Avenues,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cThis is an existing 37-story building with active permits to convert it from a commercial office building to a residential building.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>Mamdani said first responders reacted \u201cto the call immediately, and found structural issues on the 21st floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>\u201cTwo structural columns have buckled, in addition to multiple cracks and sagging floors. The building remains unstable,\u201d the mayor warned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>\u201cSince arriving on scene, we have witnessed additional movement in one of the compromised columns. First responders and structural engineers are working closely with the project engineer to develop plans to shore up the impacted floor,\u201d Mamdani continued. \u201cIf the floor is deemed to be secure, engineers will enter and begin shoring up the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>\u201cAs we await the arrivals of materials that will stabilize the building, DOB engineers have been investigating with FDNY drones. This is an extremely serious situation and I am thankful to our first responders for quickly arriving at the site and to New Yorkers for reacting calmly and with urgency,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--)--><!--(--><!----><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-item-body\">\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m grateful to report that there have been no injuries at this time, and that every worker has been accounted for.
