Last month, former Manchester United star Mark Hughes suffered the worst news a parent can hear: the death of his son Alex.<\/p>\n
Mark Hughes had two spells at Old Trafford, with his first between 1983 and 1986.<\/p>\n
The Welshman moved to FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich before making a swift return in 1988.<\/p>\n
Hughes would spend seven seasons at the club during his second spell, scoring 116 goals.<\/p>\n
He would also have spells as a player at teams like Chelsea, Southampton and Blackburn Rovers.<\/p>\n
His son, who died at 38 years old, had playing spells at Stockport County and Wrexham.<\/p>\n
He moved into player analysis and recruitment roles, working for clubs such as Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Fulham before leading a private academy in Portugal.<\/p>\n
After his death, his father released a statement via the League Managers\u2019 Association stating, \u201cAlex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children Sebastian and Leonardo.\u201d<\/p>\n
The funeral was held yesterday at St Peter\u2019s Church in Prestbury, and numerous people connected with Manchester United were in attendance to support the Hughes family.<\/p>\n
The Manchester Evening News reports, \u201cSir Alex Ferguson, Mike Phelan, Martin Edwards, Bryan Robson and Ryan Giggs were among those in attendance, while Grimsby Town boss David Artell led a delegation from the Mariners, where Alex was working as player recruitment lead before he died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 19th.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other people connected with football in attendance included Martin Keown and Jon Walters.<\/p>\n
Former Manchester United striker Mark Hughes \u201ccarried the coffin of his son into church along with other family members, including Alex\u2019s brother Curtis and his father-in-law, David Pollock, who delivered an emotional eulogy.\u201d<\/p>\n
