Manchester United are reportedly inching closer to striking a deal for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos.<\/p>\n
Heading into the ongoing window, United\u2019s priority was bolstering their midfield department after a season in which they finished third and secured Champions League football.<\/p>\n
United moved with speed to wrap up a deal with Atalanta for Ederson. With Brazil now out of the World Cup, an announcement confirming his arrival is believed to be imminent.<\/p>\n
That momentum proved short-lived for United, who were also left empty-handed in their pursuits of Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. Michael Carrick\u2019s side considered moves for both players but eventually backed out after learning of their exorbitant price tags.<\/p>\n
Anderson and Fernandes have completed switches to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.<\/p>\n
Over the weekend, it emerged that the Red Devils have turned their attention to Santos. David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that United were exploring a deal for Santos, who is eager for regular playing time.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s believed that Chelsea are open to letting the 22-year-old leave if they feel that it\u2019s best for all parties. Now, Mike Keegan claims that United are closing in on Santos.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are seeking \u00a350m and negotiations are continuing, according to those with knowledge of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whether United consider Santos to represent fair value at that price remains to be seen, but the indications that they are intensifying their interest are certainly noteworthy.<\/p>\n
Santos made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season, contributing three goals.<\/p>\n
