Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has greenlit a potential transfer to AS Roma, but this may not be the right move for him.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old’s fall from grace continues unabated. Once one of the biggest prospects at Man Utd, Garnacho has long since ceased to be the exciting talent of seasons past – despite still being incredibly young.<\/p>\n

After being forced out of Old Trafford by then-head coach Ruben Amorim, the Argentine joined Chelsea last summer following a drawn-out saga that culminated in a \u20ac46.2 million agreement – a far cry from the kind of money Man Utd had previously demanded for him.<\/p>\n

His debut season at Stamford Bridge was decidedly average. Half of his eight goals were scored against lower-league opposition in the domestic cups, and his overall play left a lot to be desired.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, then, Chelsea are already willing to move on from the winger. Garnacho has been transfer-listed and added to the Blues’ ‘Bomb Squad,’ meaning that he will not train with Xabi Alonso’s squad as things stand.<\/p>\n

Roma want Garnacho – but there are two problems <\/h2>\n

Garnacho’s availability has attracted the attention of AS Roma, who are looking to revamp their attack after their long-awaited return to the Champions League. Gian Piero Gasperini wants to sign at least two new forwards.<\/p>\n

The Argentine is one of the top options for Gasperini, but a deal is anything but straightforward. For one, Chelsea insist that they will only consider permanent offers for Garnacho.<\/p>\n

Roma, on the other hand, would prefer an initial loan with a permanent element. The fact of the matter is that despite the influx of Champions League revenues, they probably can’t afford to buy Garnacho, for whom Chelsea want \u20ac50m, according to Fabrizio Romano<\/b>.<\/p>\n

This is the biggest roadblock as things stand. On the player’s side, there are no issues, with Garnacho understood to be open to making the switch to the Giallorossi.<\/p>\n

Even if a deal were to be agreed, though, there would be question marks. According to data analytics firm SciSports, Roma are not a great fit for Garnacho.<\/p>\n

SciSports analyses several factors such as playing time prospects, tactical suitability and development opportunities and then calculates a Club Fit rating. Roma clock in with a middling score of 68.<\/p>\n

The data shows that Garnacho is stuck between a rock and a hard place because there is no real obvious fit for him anywhere. Inter have a good rating of 79 courtesy of strong marks in the development and playing time categories, but the Argentine may not be a good tactical fit for Cristian Chivu’s system.<\/p>\n

It’s the opposite for Man City. Garnacho ranks well tactically, but he is not believed to be good enough to get regular minutes at the Etihad. Joining a club like Borussia Dortmund could be his best solution. There would be some stylistic concerns, but it is believed that he would get plenty of minutes.<\/p>\n

Obviously, though, Dortmund have the same problem as Roma: they can’t spend \u20ac50m on a player. They are on the verge of selling Karim Adeyemi to Barcelona and have earmarked Said El Mala as an ideal replacement. However, Koln’s \u20ac50m price tag is currently insurmountable.<\/p>\n

A deal for Garnacho is similarly unrealistic. So, what should the Argentine do? Should he knuckle down and try to convince Alonso that he could work at Chelsea? It’s a possibility he should seriously consider because the Blues are one of his better options with a Club Fit of 76.<\/p>\n
