There is no denying that Alejandro Garnacho\u2019s move from Manchester United to Chelsea has not worked out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Has he been as terrible as some Chelsea fans have made out? Perhaps not. The winger has had some good moments in a blue shirt.<\/p>\n

For example, Garnacho\u2019s performance against Arsenal in the first leg of Chelsea\u2019s Carabao Cup semi-final tie was excellent.<\/p>\n

However, he did not kick on from there and will have to go down as a big disappointment overall. With that in mind, with Garnacho heading for the exit door, some at Stamford Bridge will now have regrets about not signing a different attacker in the last summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

Chelsea will regret signing Alejandro Garnacho instead of Xavi Simons<\/h2>\n

Chelsea were interested in signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig before they brought in Garnacho.<\/p>\n

In the end, they decided to prioritise Garnacho, giving Tottenham Hotspur the opportunity to swoop in and snap up Simons.<\/p>\n

Simons did not exactly light up the Premier League, but he was starting to make an impact towards the end of last season before sustaining a cruciate ligament injury.<\/p>\n

He is a bit more versatile than Garnacho, with the Dutchman capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or left winger.<\/p>\n

When you consider that and Garnacho\u2019s underwhelming season, you can easily argue that Chelsea should have signed Simons instead.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old would have cost the Blues a bit more money. Tottenham paid \u00a352m for his signature, while Chelsea signed Garnacho for \u00a340m.<\/p>\n

But most Chelsea fans now would probably say they would have preferred for the club to spend a bit extra on Simons instead of signing Garnacho.<\/p>\n

Of course, it is all hindsight, although many Chelsea supporters did fear that Garnacho would flop at the Bridge.<\/p>\n

The Argentina international now looks set to join AS Roma, and perhaps a fresh start away from English football is what he needs. <\/p>\n
