Newcastle United are keen to sign former Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo Santos from Botafogo.<\/strong><\/p>\n Links with the Brazilian midfielder appeared over the last couple of days, and while we weren’t overly convinced initially, the story has picked up a lot of traction.<\/p>\n On Sunday, Newcastle learned that they were set to miss out on Johan Manzambi, who had been the primary target to replace Sandro Tonali.<\/p>\n Manzambi appears destined for Aston Villa, and now Newcastle must pivot to find another potential replacement, and it looks as though the 25-year-old Botafogo star is near the top of the list.<\/p>\n When the story first broke, Newcastle’s name was mentioned alongside that of Chelsea, but a new update claims that Chelsea are ready to look elsewhere, leaving Newcastle in a clear lead for his signature.<\/p>\n Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has claimed that Chelsea were never really serious contenders and that Newcastle are in ‘advanced talks’ with Botafogo.<\/p>\n Mark Douglas has named Danilo as a target for Newcastle and used the Ross Wilson connection to hammer the point home, as the Magpies’ sporting director had worked with Danilo at Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n Crucially, Botafogo were banking on Danilo impressing at the World Cup and seeing his value rise, but he was barely used by Carlo Ancelotti, and so it seems now that they will be willing to take \u00a326 million for his services.<\/p>\n As Newcastle were willing to fork out \u00a349 million for Manzambi, only having to spend \u00a326 million on an alternative is ideal. And unlike Manzambi, Danilo already has Premier League experience.<\/p>\n At 24, Danilo is a few years further on in his development too, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t worried about his fitness after he suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle during his time at Nottingham Forest. <\/p>\n He’s supposedly fully recovered after that, but it’s always a worry when a player has had such a nasty injury. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Newcastle United are keen to sign former Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo Santos from Botafogo.
