Chelsea defender Reece James returned to England\u2019s starting XI for their World Cup semi-final clash against Argentina.<\/strong><\/p>\n

James picked up a hamstring injury earlier in the tournament and had to be named as a substitute in the Three Lions\u2019 2-1 victory over Norway in the quarter-finals before being brought on in the second half.<\/p>\n

However, he was fit enough to start on Wednesday but was unable to help England reach a first World Cup final in 60 years.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph gave James a seven out of 10 match rating. On his performance, they wrote: \u201cFirst start for three weeks after hamstring problems and had tough assignment marking (Julian) Alvarez \u2014 then taken off injured. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a frantic pace where it was easy to lose possession by taking a second too long. But he also got forward to support attacks and sent over a cross in first half. Thomas Tuchel made huge call to start in this game and changing back four.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goal was also kind with their rating, handing the 26-year-old a seven, too. \u201cBrought back into the starting line-up after his impressive cameo against Norway and was solid as a rock throughout before his late withdrawal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Standard and Metro both gave James a six, so the overall view of his performance was quite positive.<\/p>\n

Following his arrival at Cobham last week, Xabi Alonso spoke about James, sharing a small update on the Chelsea academy product\u2019s future as captain.<\/p>\n

In an interview, Alonso confirmed that James would continue as captain. As for the vice-captain role, Levi Colwill could become a contender if Enzo Fernandez leaves Stamford Bridge this summer.<\/p>\n

Reece James\u2019 numbers vs Argentina<\/h2>\n

Defensively, James can be quite pleased with his performance, especially considering he has just recovered from a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

According to Sofascore, James won the single tackle he attempted, made one interception and recorded two clearances. He was not dribbled past once and also won three of the five ground duels he competed in.<\/p>\n

Going forward, James made one key pass and completed one cross, so he was able to make a couple of contributions in attack as well.<\/p>\n
