Only two games remain at the 2026 World Cup. We\u2019ve seen some excellent goalkeeping performances at the tournament, but who have been the best goalkeepers overall?<\/strong><\/p>\n Using statistics taken from FBref, we\u2019ve taken a look at who the five best \u2018keepers in the competition were. Before we get into the top five, we\u2019d like to give out our honourable mentions.<\/p>\n Everton and England shot-stopper Jordan Pickford is worthy of mention. A reliable hand throughout the World Cup, he made some excellent saves, conceding just eight goals in seven games.<\/p>\n Portugal\u2019s Diogo Costa had one of the highest save percentages at the tournament with 86.4%. Had he remained in the competition for longer, he might\u2019ve made this list.<\/p>\n Finally, we must also give credit to Australia\u2019s Patrick Beach, who enjoyed a brilliant World Cup debut. His opening game against Turkey was amongst the best goalkeeping displays in the entire tournament, making eights saves against Turkiye in a major upset.<\/p>\n Camilo Vargas definitely benefitted from having a solid defence in front of him, but still proved to be a reliable hand whenever he was called upon to get Columbia out of danger.<\/p>\n Vargas conceded just one goal over the course of the entire tournament, keeping a total of four clean sheets in five World Cup games.<\/p>\n Granted, he only made a meagre six saves, which prevented him from being placed any higher. Nevertheless, there is nothing he could\u2019ve done about this \u2013 he can\u2019t take shots against himself!<\/p>\n Switzerland were one of the World Cup\u2019s surprise packages, exceeding expectations to reach the quarter-finals, where they were eventually eliminated by Argentina.<\/p>\n Gregor Kobel played a major role in their excellent run in the tournament. Making a total of 20 saves, only one goalkeeper at the World Cup managed to prevent more goals than he did.<\/p>\n With an impressive save percentage of 76.9% over the course of six games, letting in just six goals along the way, Kobel is more than worthy of his spot in this list.<\/p>\n Paraguay certainly rubbed a few audiences the wrong way at the World Cup for their antics both on and off the pitch, but one cannot deny how solid they were at the back and in goal.<\/p>\n Despite being the youngest goalkeeper in this top five, Orlando Gill put forth some incredibly mature displays between the sticks for the South American outfit.<\/p>\n No-one managed to complete more saves than he did at the World Cup with a total of 23. On top of this, he also accumulated an excellent save percentage of 79.3%.<\/p>\n Some audiences found Luis de la Fuente\u2019s decision to play Unai Simon over Arsenal\u2019s David Raya to be confusing, but the Athletic Bilbao man has proven every single one of his critics wrong at the World Cup.<\/p>\n The centre-back partnership of Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte haven\u2019t allowed Spain\u2019s opponents to rattle off many shots against La Roja, but Simon has been a fantastic last line of defence throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n All in all, Simon has conceded just a single goal at the World Cup this year, which came against Belgium. To his credit, there was very little he could\u2019ve done about it, either. <\/p>\n You probably all saw this one coming. Vozinha became an overnight global celebrity for his spectacular display against Spain in Cape Verde\u2019s first-ever World Cup game, keeping a clean sheet against the 2010 champions.<\/p>\n Making a total of 18 saves in five games, Vozinha\u2019s World Cup story was everything that the tournament is about. Truly, truly inspiring stuff.<\/p>\n Despite being 40 years of age and having never made it at a top club, Vozinha still managed to write his name into the annals of football history.
