However, no offer has been submitted and direct negotiations between the clubs have not started.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chelsea\u2019s valuation presents the biggest obstacle. Diego Simeone\u2019s style and the club\u2019s strong South American influence may also appeal to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Atl\u00e9tico would need to break their transfer record or persuade Chelsea to lower their demands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest report also conflicts with Xabi Alonso\u2019s public position. The Chelsea head coach recently confirmed that he wants Fern\u00e1ndez to stay after holding private discussions with the midfielder, as Read Chelsea reported following Alonso\u2019s first press conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fern\u00e1ndez remains an important part of Alonso\u2019s midfield plans, particularly following Andrey Santos\u2019 move to Manchester United.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atl\u00e9tico\u2019s interest is currently exploratory rather than advanced.
