Stamford Bridge officials want the teenage striker tied down to a fresh agreement to protect his valuation, with a temporary switch away from West London planned for the coming season.

The Evening Standard reports that the 18-year-old forward is on the verge of signing the new contract. His current deal runs until 2027, but Chelsea want absolute clarity regarding his commitment before sanctioning a move. Massive interest from English Football League clubs and teams across Europe forced the club to accelerate these contract talks.

Development league dominance triggers first-team security

Mheuka comes off the back of a sensational 2025/26 campaign with the development squad. He walked away with the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award after firing the Under-21 side to the domestic league title. The numbers tell the whole story. The Birmingham-born youngster hit 18 goals and provided one assist in just 19 league appearances.

He already knows what it feels like to play for the senior side. Nine first-team appearances are on his record since making a historic debut against FC Astana in the UEFA Conference League back in December 2024. His international record is just as impressive. He has scored 16 goals in 23 matches for the England Under-19 team.

Brighton originally spotted his raw talent when he was just nine years old. Chelsea then brought him to Cobham at 15 for an initial €1m. That deal could eventually rise to €4.25m if performance-related bonuses hit their targets. Getting this new contract signed means Chelsea keep total control over where his career goes next.

Read: Chelsea preparing £51m transfer offer for rock-solid World Cup star

Scorzo’s take:

Chelsea are handling this situation exactly the right way. Sending Mheuka out on a straight loan without any option for the other club to buy keeps his path to the Stamford Bridge first team wide open. He is simply too good for academy football now. A tough season in the Championship will give him the physical traits he needs to cope with the pressure of top-flight football later.

More Chelsea Stories from Scorzo

Shim Mheuka New Chelsea Contract: Chelsea close to securing Shim Mheuka’s future ahead of summer…

[4

post-18656","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
