The versatile Rogers is expected to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on a bumper contract in the next few days. Rogers is in the USA with the England squad but will have a medical in London as soon as they return to the UK, and then sign a deal that could be for up to seven years.

The money involved in this deal is truly staggering. Chelsea have reportedly paid a club record £117 million to bring the highly-rated playmaker from Villa Park, surpassing the British record £116 million for Elliot Anderson to join Manchester City earlier this summer. The fee is a huge profit for Villa, who paid a relatively small sum, thought to be in the region of £8 million, to sign Rogers from Middlesbrough two years ago.

The 23-year-old hard worker scored 21 goals in 85 appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, who won the Europa League last year. The England man is also no stranger to the international scene, having played a key role in England’s World Cup campaign.

Arsenal Miss Another Chance to Sign Rogers

Arsenal’s move for Rogers finally broke down, continuing a frustrating summer of missing out on their main targets to rival clubs. Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs said the Gunners were very keen on Rogers, but he opted to join Chelsea instead of moving across north London. This is the second consecutive transfer window in which Arsenal’s top target has chosen another destination after previously missing out on another pursuit by another suitor.

But the setback doesn’t seem to have discouraged Mikel Arteta’s recruitment team, who are now understood to be eyeing alternative options. Still looking at other attacking targets such as Julian Alvarez and Junior Kroupi, the north London club are still keen on Bradley Barcola, who is also a target for Liverpool.

Villa were in a relatively strong position when they came into the window, but they will have a more difficult summer. Having qualified for the Champions League by finishing fourth last season and then going on to enjoy continental success, Emery’s side looked set to remain in the hunt for the top four, but the early signs from this window have pointed in a very worrying direction. The loss of their leading forward is a huge blow to their high hopes for the new season.

[4

post-18898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
