Morgan Rogers is in London today to undergo a medical and complete a record-breaking move to Chelsea from Aston Villa.<\/p>\n
The Blues reached a \u00a3117million agreement with Villa over the weekend for the 23-year-old, who is set to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the option of a further 12 months. Xabi Alonso spoke to Rogers directly before the England international made the decision to join Chelsea instead of Arsenal, who, prior, looked to be the favourites for his signature.<\/p>\n
Rogers, who is now due for a three-week break after representing England at the World Cup, is said to have been impressed by Alonso’s vision in SW6 as well as his plans for the Englishman. The Villa attacking midfielder arrived in London on Monday morning to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper and officially becoming a Chelsea player.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, Rogers is also expected to become a new transfer record for an English player, eclipsing the \u00a3116m Manchester City spent on Elliot Anderson earlier this month. Rogers is likely to be Alonso’s second addition since being appointed Chelsea manager following the \u00a347m arrival of versatile Italian defender Marco Palestra.<\/p>\n
Chelsea have also brought in Geovany Quenda, Dastan Satpayev and Emmanuel Emegha on pre-agreed deals, while Argentina midfielder Valentin Barco is also expected to complete a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
