He left United under somewhat acrimonious circumstances, having fallen out of favour under then-manager Ruben Amorim after he publicly questioned why he was named on the bench for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

United sold him to Chelsea for £40m. However, life on the other side has perhaps not proved as green as he might have envisioned.

Garnacho struggled for impact in his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge, with his performances proving to be a constant source of frustration. He never truly managed to nail down a starting berth under either Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior or Calum McFarlane.

The Argentina international managed just one Premier League goal all term. He was also left out of the Albiceleste’s World Cup squad. Almost 12 months after they bought him, Chelsea are prepared to offload the player. Xabi Alonso has made it clear that Garnacho is surplus to requirements and an exit would be best for all concerned.

AS Roma have emerged as frontrunners for the troubled Carrington academy graduate, but there is also interest from Aston Villa.

Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Villa are admirers of Garnacho, although the 22-year-old prefers Roma to the Birmingham outfit.

Roma have proposed an initial loan deal. Chelsea are not open to this and are demanding a straight sale. Now, Romano is reporting that Villa have lodged a bid for Garnacho.

Garnacho latest

According to Romano on X, “Understand Aston Villa sent official bid to Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho – following exclusive story about initial talks on Friday.”

“Initial loan with buy clause included being discussed as Unai Emery approved Garnacho as target.”

“Talks ongoing also player side w/ #AVFC.”

🚨🟣🔵 Understand Aston Villa sent official bid to Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho – following exclusive story about initial talks on Friday.

Initial loan with buy clause included being discussed as Unai Emery approved Garnacho as target.

Talks ongoing also player side w/ #AVFC. pic.twitter.com/rZYJ58MuV0

— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 21, 2026

United will be watching closely, seeing as they are entitled to 10% of whatever fee Chelsea obtain from Garnacho’s sale.

Featured image Alex Broadway via Getty Images

The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
