Chelsea\u2019s chances of winning a trophy this season received a major boost after they beat Leeds United in the FA Cup semifinal. Calum McFarlane, who has been handed interim charge of the team after the dismissal of Liam Rosenior, will be more than happy with the result and his team\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n
While the Blues work hard to salvage something positive from an otherwise poor campaign, the board should be busy trying to find a new manager who could take over in the summer. Considering how badly things went for Rosenior, the club\u2019s likely failure to qualify for the Champions League and their financial condition, they are under pressure to get this appointment right.<\/p>\n
However, it looks like John Obi Mikel isn\u2019t convinced that a top candidate would want to take charge of the Chelsea side in its current state. The Nigerian legend recently spoke on\u00a0The Obi One Podcast and stated:<\/p>\n
\n\n\u201cTell me, there is no top manager that\u2019s going to want to come on to Chelsea right now and talk about this job because you never know. You have absolutely zero idea what\u2019s happening. We need a manager. We don\u2019t need a coach. We\u2019ve been successful in the past years because we had managers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\n\n\u201cWe had managers that would come in and manage everything, manage what happens on the pitch and what happens outside the pitch. A manager that\u2019s going to be like, this is my football club and I\u2019m going to manage everything that\u2019s got to do with it. They\u2019re not going to do that. They will never in a million years allow that to happen. So what we\u2019re going to get is another yes man. That\u2019s what we\u2019re going to get.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n
John Obi Mikel feels Chelsea ownership have no clear vision<\/h2>\n
BlueCo took over the ownership of Chelsea back in 2022, and since then the club have won just two trophies. The Club World Cup and the Conference League were clinched last season under Enzo Maresca.<\/p>\n
Despite this, the Italian manager was gone six months later. The difference in opinion regarding transfers is believed to have played a huge part in that decision.<\/p>\n
In fact, Maresca requested a new centre-back following the injury to Levi Colwill, but was overlooked. And fast forward to today, the defence has struggled throughout the season.<\/p>\n
BlueCo need to show accountability and modify their approach<\/h2>\n
There is unfortunately no clear direction the club is headed towards at the moment. Their reliance on talented youngsters without any experienced players to lead them should be changed moving forward.<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t the Chelsea that fans are familiar with. They want to see the Blues return to their former glory and compete with the elite clubs of Europe. Right now, they look and play like a mid-table team.<\/p>\n
Obi Mikel, being a legend of the club and obviously a fan as well, has rightly pointed this out. It\u2019s now BlueCo\u2019s turn to take accountability, make necessary changes and step up their efforts.<\/p>\n
Chelsea do need a top manager to come in and turn them into real contenders. Another experimental head coach might or might not work out. But unfortunately, after the last four years, there is little room for error.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
