Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa late on Tuesday night as the Blues secured a \u00a3117m deal, but that wasn\u2019t the Chelsea announcement that impressed John Terry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rogers joins Chelsea as Xabi Alonso\u2019s second signing since becoming manager, following the addition of Marco Palestra. The England star becomes Chelsea\u2019s record buy, eclipsing the deal for Moises Caicedo.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Rogers is now the most-expensive Englishman ever and the \u00a3117m deal is the fourth-biggest transfer in the history of football. He has signed a six-year deal at Chelsea, with the option of a seventh.<\/p>\n

A deal that has been widely applauded despite its enormity. Chelsea have beaten Arsenal to his signature as well as Man United and PSG, yet it was a different Chelsea announcement that impressed Terry.<\/p>\n

Chelsea also announced a new contract on Tuesday <\/h2>\n

Aside from confirmation that Chelsea had just broken their transfer record on Tuesday, there was another bit of important news. Sol Gordon, 18, has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

The winger has starred for Chelsea\u2019s U18 side, scoring 21 goals and creating seven more in 52 matches. That form has seen him accelerated into Chelsea\u2019s second string, already scoring in just four outings.<\/p>\n

It has also caught the attention of several clubs, with Pete O\u2019Rourke reporting that Arsenal, Leeds, Bournemouth, Everton and PSV were all interested. Now, Chelsea have announced his new contract.<\/p>\n

They did so via Chelsea\u2019s academy Instagram page, and John Terry was among those to respond. He described Gordon as a \u201cballer\u201d before saying \u201ccongratulations mate\u201d, having likely worked with Gordon.<\/p>\n

Chelsea have struggled to bring through young, homegrown talent since BlueCo took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022. The quantity of players and youngsters signed has blocked homegrown pathways.<\/p>\n

Notable exceptions include Jesse Derry and Josh Acheampong. But even this summer, Acheampong may leave due to a lack of game time, and Derry has been sent on loan to Sporting, where he has impressed.<\/p>\n

Chelsea struggle to blood their own, and yet Gordon has decided to sign a new contract despite interest from other sides. Perhaps there is hope for Chelsea\u2019s youngsters with Xabi Alonso placed in charge.<\/p>\n
