Alex Scott\u2019s future has dominated headlines in recent times, and there\u2019s been a new update that just doesn\u2019t quite add up.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has impressed at Bournemouth and it certainly makes sense that we\u2019re seeing him linked with so many big clubs at the moment.<\/p>\n

In just the last few days we\u2019ve had some key updates, with Sky Sports reporting that Scott has rejected a new contract at Bournemouth, while Chelsea have apparently had an initial \u00a364m offer for the Englishman turned down by the Cherries, according to BBC Sport.<\/p>\n

Now the latest from the Daily Mirror is that Arsenal are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Scott for just \u00a340m.<\/p>\n

Latest Alex Scott transfer update doesn\u2019t add up<\/h2>\n

There\u2019s a lot that\u2019s a bit puzzling about the Mirror\u2019s report, so it\u2019s possible that they\u2019ll update it at some point to correct some errors.<\/p>\n

Firstly, the obvious point is that there\u2019s surely no way any club is signing Scott for \u00a340m when we\u2019ve had a reliable outlet like the BBC saying that Bournemouth have rejected \u00a364m for him.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also a bit puzzling that there\u2019s no mention of Chelsea at all from the Mirror, which describes the saga as a battle between Arsenal and Man Utd.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s easy to imagine those clubs also being interested, it seems strange to frame it that way when there\u2019s such reliable information elsewhere that Chelsea are also clearly one of Scott\u2019s biggest suitors.<\/p>\n

Slightly conflicting claims on Alex Scott\u2019s future<\/h2>\n

The report suggests Arsenal are in pole position to sign Scott, but it also mentions that the player is \u2018worried about how much game time he will get for\u00a0Mikel Arteta\u2019s English champions\u2019.<\/p>\n

It may well be that Scott ends up choosing the Gunners anyway, but it seems strange to describe them as being so clearly in pole position when he has this rather significant doubt about joining.<\/p>\n

Away from this report, there are also very strong signals that Arsenal\u2019s top midfield target isn\u2019t even Scott anyway, but Newcastle\u2019s Bruno Guimaraes.<\/p>\n

The Times claim that club-to-club talks have started, so that seems to be Arsenal\u2019s focus for their midfield right now.<\/p>\n

Of course, it\u2019s perfectly possible that AFC also keep the Scott deal alive in case Newcastle reject all offers for Guimaraes, but that still seems unlikely to mean they\u2019re in pole position *now* to sign Scott, and certainly not for \u00a340m.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see what further updates emerge on this story, but for now it\u2019s hard to make sense of the Mirror\u2019s information being so out of sync with what everyone else seems to be reporting.<\/p>\n
