Former Aston Villa scout Bryan King feels departing midfielder Morgan Rogers should\u2019ve gone to Arsenal, but has chosen Chelsea \u201cfor money.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Gunners seemed to be in pole position for Rogers<\/strong> this summer. They were the side mentioned in most of the reports, with the suggestion it was the Premier League champions who were most interested in him.<\/p>\n But they never actually launched a bid, and the Blues got the transfer over the line quickly so they never could.<\/p>\n Rogers\u2019 \u00a3117million move to Chelsea<\/strong> has been confirmed, and King feels the only reason he chose them over Arsenal is money.<\/p>\n He told Football Insider<\/em>: \u201cI\u2019m not sure whether that\u2019s the right move for Rogers, Chelsea. I am surprised by it. Again, it\u2019s got to be money. It\u2019s got to be money.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought he would have been suited to Arsenal, to be honest.\u00a0If he was going to move, Arsenal would have been a good move for him.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re moving to the\u00a0champions. You\u2019re not moving to a team that\u2019s struggling to get into Europe, who have not\u00a0only spent a lot of money, but they spent it poorly, Chelsea.<\/p>\n \u201cWhether it\u2019s the right move for him, my jury is out on that, because it was a surprise to me that he said yes to Chelsea\u00a0and didn\u2019t push for Arsenal.\u201d<\/p>\n Rogers is reported to be earning \u00a3135,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, rising to \u00a3175,000 if Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, and including a lot of incentives.<\/p>\n There\u2019s been a good deal of opposition for Rogers\u2019 move to Chelsea, with Paul Merson among those against it.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of money. Crazy money. Bringing Morgan Rogers in for \u00a3117m isn\u2019t what Chelsea needed.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ve got Cole Palmer! They play in the same position! Rogers went to the World Cup instead of Palmer, because they play in the same position.<\/p>\n \u201cUnless Chelsea go for the almighty and sell Enzo Fernandez \u2013 and swallow the pill for him, because he\u2019s not worth \u00a3100m \u2013 and then play Moises Caicedo at the base, then Rogers and Palmer both ahead of him.\u201d<\/p>\n On Rogers\u2019 role, Merson said: \u201cThis move tells me that Arsenal were telling Rogers that he would play left wing, and Chelsea have told him that he will play where he wants to play, which is the No 10 role.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause I have no idea how he goes to Chelsea instead of Arsenal if they\u2019re going to play in the same position.<\/p>\n \u201cOne team looks like they\u2019re going to win the Premier League again this year and have a good chance for the Champions League, and one team isn\u2019t even in Europe.
