Chelsea have been trying to find a way to bring Maxence Lacroix to Stamford Bridge for several weeks.<\/p>\n

The Crystal Palace centre-back’s participation in the 2026 World Cup for France has prolonged discussions, but with the summer tournament now over, it’s full steam ahead for the Blues.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
However, the problem for Chelsea has always been Palace’s asking price. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The two clubs have had a gap in their valuations with the Eagles wanting a deal that would top \u00a360 million whereas the Blues have so far only been prepared to pay closer to \u00a350 million.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There could be another way for Lacroix to become a Chelsea player, though.<\/p>\n

According to a recent report from the Standard, Chelsea and Palace are in talks over a deal for Lacroix that could see Axel Disasi included in exchange.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Although the Blues have been asking for \u00a325 million for Disasi, it appears they’d be open to a player-plus-cash arrangement.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Even though Xabi Alonso has only been in charge since the beginning of the month, Disasi won’t play any part under the Spaniard. He spent the whole of last season out on loan with West Ham and has been part of the Blues’ bomb squad ever since.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Frenchman impressed at West Ham and would have probably moved to the London Stadium permanently had it not been for the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship on the final day of last season.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Aston Villa have also made enquiries for the 28-year-old but are further down in the priority list due to the Blues’ eagerness to sign Lacroix.<\/p>\n

Xabi Alonso’s defensive overhaul taking shape<\/h2>\n
<\/p>\n
Even though Chelsea have needed to overhaul their entire squad this summer, defence has been the area of the pitch most in need of being addressed.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Since Alonso arrived, it has become clear just how many changes are required at the back. The Blues desperately need to add experience and a winning mentality in defence.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Alonso is believed to be a fan of John Stones with the Englishman a free agent following his recent decision to leave Manchester City. Lacroix \u2014 a European winner and established international \u2014 would also represent a significant upgrade. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Until now, the Blues’ squad has been bloated with centre-backs, but very few have shown they have what it takes. Aside from Levi Colwill \u2014 viewed by coaching staff as a future captain \u2014 all other defenders have been made available for transfer.<\/p>\n

Benoit Badiashile has also been subject to a recent enquiry from Aston Villa with Trevoh Chalobah closing in on a move to Italian side Como.<\/p>\n
