{"id":21463,"date":"2026-07-26T07:35:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T07:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=21463"},"modified":"2026-07-26T07:35:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T07:35:43","slug":"newcastle-united-strongly-linked-with-fikayo-tomori","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=21463","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle United strongly linked with Fikayo Tomori"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Newcastle United are being linked by several sources to former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Magpies hold a historical interest in Tomori, having previously looked at the AC Milan centre-back in previous transfer windows.<\/p>\n<p>When Newcastle were looking at signing Malick Thiaw, it was often reported that they were also looking at Tomori, but it was the German who ultimately moved to Tyneside.<\/p>\n<p>Claims surfaced from a questionable source on X, Sebastien Vidal on Saturday, suggesting that Newcastle were pushing ahead with a move for the 28-year-old and that the Magpies had made a bid of \u20ac15 million (\u00a312.8 million), but Milan are holding out for \u20ac20 million (\u00a317 million).<\/p>\n<h2>Lee Ryder poured cold water on the rumour immediately<\/h2>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for Lee Ryder to shoot down the story, though. The Chronicle journalist took to X to say that his sources at the club had refuted the story.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>However, the reason we&#8217;re giving it the time of day is that Newcastle&#8217;s previous interest does leave the door open, as does the wording of Lee Ryder&#8217;s post.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;#NUFC sources indicate there have been no bids for Fikayo Tomori submitted despite reports.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Player being offered around Europe. Previous interest but no bids so far.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"max-w-(550px) min-h-(300px)\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lee_ryder\/status\/2081054925748863300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"\/>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>We&#8217;d welcome Tomori, but we don&#8217;t see it happening<\/h2>\n<p>Those last two words, &#8216;so far&#8217;, suggest that Newcastle haven&#8217;t completely ruled out a move for the six-times-capped England star.<\/p>\n<p>A central defender isn&#8217;t a priority for Newcastle right now, though, so unless Tomori remains available late in the window, it does feel unlikely that a move will be made.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Newcastle needs full-backs, a right winger and a goalkeeper before looking to add more experience to the centre-back position.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth remembering that Tomori shot down the idea of a move to Newcastle when we were upwardly mobile, so he&#8217;s hardly likely to have changed his mind now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rumour Rating<\/strong>: 4\/10 &#8211; A lot of things would need to line up for this to happen, we think. We would happily take him, though.
