As usual, the top four clubs in the Premier League qualified for the Champions League. This season, that was Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, after Unai Emery\u2019s side beat Liverpool in the penultimate round of fixtures.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last season\u2019s Premier League champions did, however, manage to sneak into Europe\u2019s elite club competition thanks to the European Performance Spot (EPS), which is awarded to the league whose teams perform best in European competition over the course of the season.<\/p>\n

Since its introduction in the 2024-25 season, the Premier League has taken the EPS on both occasions.<\/p>\n

That meant that the Europa League spots normally awarded to the teams finishing fifth and sixth were pushed down one place to sixth and seventh, meaning Bournemouth and Sunderland will both play in the competition next season for the first time in their respective histories.<\/p>\n

Brighton, who had been lingering in the Europa League spots for much of the campaign, finished eighth after defeats to Leeds and Manchester United to end the season, meaning they enter the Europa Conference League.<\/p>\n

Despite finishing 15th after a season of ups and downs, Palace joined Bournemouth and Sunderland in the Europa League courtesy of their victory over Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The final weeks of the season brought massive drama, shaking up the traditional European spots. Thanks to England finishing at the top of UEFA\u2019s association coefficient rankings, the Premier League has been awarded a fifth \u201cPerformance Spot\u201d in the Champions League, bringing the total number of English clubs playing in Europe to nine.<\/p>\n

A major structural detail of the current UEFA format means that all nine English clubs bypass the qualifying rounds entirely and head straight into the main stages of their respective competitions.<\/p>\n

The qualified teams and their entry points are detailed below.<\/p>\n

1. UEFA Champions League (5 Clubs)<\/h2>\n

The five English representatives go straight into the League Phase (which replaced the old group stage format).<\/p>\n

    A combination of league finishes and cup\/European silverware has yielded three direct spots for English clubs in the League Phase.<\/p>\n

    • Bournemouth (6th Place \u2014 securing the club\u2019s historic first-ever European campaign)<\/li>\n
    • Sunderland (7th Place \u2014 inherited the spot from FA Cup winners Manchester City, clinching it on a wild final day by beating Chelsea)<\/li>\n
    • Crystal Palace (Qualified automatically as the reigning champions of the UEFA Conference League)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      3. UEFA Conference League (1 Club)<\/h2>\n

      Because EFL Cup winners Manchester City already secured Champions League football, the solitary Conference League spot shifted down the Premier League table.<\/p>\n
