Chelsea loanee Jesse Derry continued his impressive start to life at Sporting by scoring on his first appearance at the Est\u00e1dio Jos\u00e9 Alvalade and admitting afterwards that he did not even know how to celebrate.<\/strong><\/p>\n The 19-year-old winger found the net in Sporting\u2019s 2-0 pre-season victory over Monaco on Saturday, producing a composed finish that left goalkeeper Philipp K\u00f6hn with no chance.<\/p>\n Speaking to Sporting TV after the match, Derry admitted playing in front of the home supporters was a dream come true. His words were relayed by Record<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone dreams of playing in a stadium like this. It\u2019s a dream come true,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a great honour to play here in front of all these people, especially for such a big club as Sporting. I\u2019m very honoured and proud to play for Sporting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The England U19 international confessed the goal itself left him momentarily speechless.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was fantastic to see the ball go into the net. The goalkeeper didn\u2019t even move. It was incredible to see the fans celebrating. I hope to score many more.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Asked what went through his mind after scoring, Derry smiled and replied: \u201cI genuinely didn\u2019t know what to do. I just looked at the stands. It was incredible.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The goal continues an encouraging start to Derry\u2019s loan spell after Chelsea sent him to Portugal for the season to gain regular senior experience.<\/p>\n Derry also expressed confidence that Sporting are in a strong position ahead of the new campaign and praised the welcome he has received since arriving from Chelsea.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, it\u2019s exciting. Not only for the fans, but for us as well. There are a lot of new players and that brings excitement for everyone. We\u2019re in the perfect position so close to the start of the season.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThe players have been fantastic. It\u2019s difficult to come into a senior team at such a young age, but they\u2019ve welcomed me incredibly well. It\u2019s been really good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The winger finished with a message for Sporting supporters, joking that his Portuguese still needs some work.<\/p>\n \u201cGive me a month to speak Portuguese!\u201d <\/em>he laughed. \u201cThank you for welcoming me.
