Danny Welbeck to Chelsea could lead to changes inside Xabi Alonso\u2019s crowded forward department. <\/strong><\/p>\n David Ornstein reports that the Blues will listen to offers for Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha as they explore a surprise move for the Brighton striker.<\/p>\n Welbeck has entered the final 12 months of his Brighton contract, with the Seagulls aware of Chelsea\u2019s interest. The discussions remain at an early stage, although there is optimism that an agreement could be reached.<\/p>\n Alonso is attracted to the 35-year-old\u2019s Premier League experience and leadership. Welbeck also scored 13 league goals last season, the highest return of his career.<\/p>\n Chelsea already have Jo\u00e3o Pedro, Nicolas Jackson, Delap and Emegha available as senior centre-forward options. Marc Guiu also remains on the books but is expected to leave either permanently or on loan.<\/p>\n Ornstein reports that Chelsea are prepared to consider offers for Delap and Emegha. Their openness suggests Welbeck would not simply arrive as an additional striker within an already crowded group.<\/p>\n Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for \u00a330million last summer. However, injuries and competition for places disrupted his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n Emegha arrived from Strasbourg this summer and scored in private friendlies against Crawley Town and Bromley. His encouraging start was halted by a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the overseas tour, as covered in ReadChelsea\u2019s latest Emegha update.<\/p>\n Chelsea would need suitable offers before approving either departure. Emegha may attract loan interest, while selling Delap could allow the Blues to recover much of their original investment.<\/p>\n Danny Welbeck to Chelsea would represent a significant change from the club\u2019s usual recruitment strategy.
