Parton’s team shared a statement with Fox News Digital on Tuesday night and confirmed that she died after a “brief battle with cancer.”<\/p>\n Parton’s death sparked mourning across the world. Parton\u2019s catalog included enduring hits such as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “Here You Come Again,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” The latter song became a global phenomenon again when Whitney Houston recorded it for 1992\u2019s “The Bodyguard.”<\/p>\n Throughout the span of her career, which ignited as a performer on “The Porter Wagoner Show,” Parton always shared what mattered most to her \u2013 her Tennessee upbringing, her faith, her beloved husband, Carl Dean, and family.<\/p>\n Dolly Parton passed away peacefully on Tuesday.<\/span> (Shirlaine Forrest\/WireImage)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Below is a look at Parton’s life, in her own words, over the years.<\/p>\n DOLLY PARTON DEAD AT 80<\/strong><\/p>\n Born in 1946 in rural Sevier County, Tennessee, Parton grew up in a large, poor family in the Smoky Mountains. I would trade nothing for being brought up in the Great Smoky Mountains. Mama used to sew all of our quilts and curtains for the windows, remake our clothes, and make clothes out of feed sacks or scraps,” she said.<\/p>\n Parton was one of 12 children. Her parents were Robert Lee Parton Sr., known as Lee, a sharecropper and construction worker, and Avie Lee Caroline Parton, who raised their family.<\/p>\n Parton was very outspoken throughout her life about her Christian faith. My mom was very religious, very spiritual. So I learned all the good lessons about loving your neighbor as yourself and judge not lest you be judged. In 2018, Parton said that music is “everything to me.”<\/p>\n “It’s my gift, it’s my joy, it’s my job,” she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n Parton met Carl Dean outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville on her first day in the city in 1964, when she was 18. But I\u2019ll write something else though, if it comes.”<\/p>\n “I\u2019m just putting that all on hold,” Parton said.<\/p>\n Also, shortly after Dean’s death, Parton told People that she would always keep him close to her heart.<\/p>\n “Ours is a great old love story. Most people don\u2019t stay that close that long. That\u2019s a loss. Nobody can ever know that unless you\u2019ve experienced it yourself. But he don’t wanna be in the spotlight, but he’s very proud of and for me,” she said at the time.<\/p>\n “When I first won an award, when we first married in ’66… he just started taking clothes off before we even got out of the building. I don\u2019t require as much sleep as a lot of other people do.
