{"id":3232,"date":"2026-05-02T14:17:02","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T14:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=3232"},"modified":"2026-05-02T14:17:02","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T14:17:02","slug":"liverpool-betray-alonso-who-is-forced-to-consider-chelsea-after-verbal-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=3232","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool &#8216;betray&#8217; Alonso who is &#8216;forced to consider&#8217; Chelsea after verbal agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div><!-- Article Start --><\/p>\n<p>Former Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has been \u2018betrayed\u2019 by Liverpool and will now \u2018consider\u2019 the Chelsea job, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Reds have been in disappointing form for most of this season after Arne Slot won the Premier League title last term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liverpool<\/strong> recently exited the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City, while they were beaten 4-0 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Reds have now won their last three matches in the Premier League to give them a very good chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.<\/p>\n<p>Champions League qualification would have been the minimum requirement set out by the Liverpool board after spending over \u00a3400m in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>There have been some rumours throughout the season that Liverpool could opt to change manager and bring in former Real Madrid head coach Alonso in the summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Gerrard \u2018disappointed\u2019 that Liverpool didn\u2019t beat Arsenal to \u00a360m transfer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But now reports in Spain claim that Liverpool have decided to \u2018betray\u2019 Alonso by reconsidering their stance on Slot with the Reds now thinking about keeping the Dutchman.<\/p>\n<p>On their previous agreement with Alonso, the report adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2018There was already talk of a verbal agreement in place , which would be announced at the end of the current season. The World Cup and two-time European champion had made it very clear that he didn\u2019t want to take the risk of joining any team mid-season.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And now Alonso will be \u2018forced to consider other options\u2019 like <strong>Chelsea<\/strong> and an unnamed Saudi Arabian side, who are keen on appointing the Spaniard at the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBOkbJEmej\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Mo Salah penalty \u2018conspiracy\u2019 truth emerges as Chelsea star heads to Madrid<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Liverpool\u2019s new stance is seen as \u2018devastating news for Alonso\u2019 and he could now be considered for the Chelsea job after they sacked Liam Rosenior earlier this month.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Solhekol: The person I would go for would be Xabi Alonso<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Sky Sports News<\/em> reporter Kaveh Solhekol thinks Chelsea should appoint Alonso ahead of other contenders because of his pedigree and history of dealing with tricky dressing rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Solhekol wrote on <em>X<\/em>: \u201cThe person I would go for would be Xabi Alonso. I think just from the career he\u2019s had as a player, all the massive clubs he\u2019s played for, he\u2019s managed Real Madrid as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was forced out by the Real Madrid dressing room, but it\u2019s different level of dressing room, even to Chelsea\u2019s, and I think he would immediately command the respect of the Chelsea players.
