Gary Neville urged Manchester United to sign four players and \u2018trade\u2019 Mason Mount after the Premier League victory over Liverpool.<\/p>\n

United qualified for next season\u2019s Champions League and all-but secured third-place in the Premier League with a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Michael Carrick\u2019s side raced into a two-goal lead with Matheus Cunha opening the scoring and Benjamin Sesko doubling United\u2019s advantage inside 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

A routine home win looked inevitable at that stage but Liverpool rallied after a dismal first-half, bringing the score level through Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo.<\/p>\n

Manchester United were in danger of surrendering a first-half lead to lose a home game for the first time since 1984 but Kobbie Mainoo rifled home a 77th-minute winner to seal a 3-2 victory.<\/p>\n

Despite overseeing United\u2019s return to the Champions League, Carrick will have been \u2018disappointed\u2019 be aspects of his team\u2019s performance against Liverpool, according to Neville.<\/p>\n

Neville says his former teammate Carrick \u2018needs to rebuild the defence and midfield\u2019 \u2013 should he get the job permanently \u2013 and has identified United\u2019s four \u2018priorities\u2019.<\/p>\n

Old Trafford legend Neville would even be keen for Manchester United to sign a new fifth player this summer if it was an upgrade on Mason Mount, who has largely flattered to deceive since his \u00a360m move from Chelsea in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u2018Michael Carrick will be\u00a0very happy\u00a0tonight\u00a0but I think he will also be disappointed deep down that they\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0gone on to win that game 3-0 or 4-0,\u2019 Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast.<\/p>\n

\u2018They should have killed that game and put Liverpool to sleep because they were nowhere near this football match.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0won the game and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0the most important\u00a0thing\u00a0but Carrick\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0be fooled by some of what he saw in that second half.<\/p>\n

\u2018He will know he needs to rebuild the defence and midfield.\u00a0If you\u2019re going to play 4-4-2, which I am massively in\u00a0favour\u00a0of United doing, you have to have two very special players in there and have defenders who can play one-on-one.<\/p>\n

\u2018You\u2019re\u00a0asking a lot of\u00a0the players.\u00a0I think United\u00a0need\u00a0a left-back for next season because Luke Shaw has played every game this year and he may struggle. They need a centre-back, 100%, and they need two midfield players.<\/p>\n

\u2018They are the four priorities right now.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0the players I would look at adding to this squad.<\/p>\n

\u2018Look, if you could\u00a0then maybe\u00a0trade Mason Mount for someone else who\u00a0maybe can\u00a0play in and out and can be a bit more\u00a0flexible\u00a0across the midfield and forward line then I would say go for a fifth.<\/p>\n

\u2018But if you\u00a0can\u2019t, I would say those four areas are the\u00a0priority\u00a0and\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0got to be top-notch, those players.\u2019<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen whether Carrick is given the Manchester United job on a permanent basis following his brilliant impact at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Asked about his long-term future after the win over Liverpool, Carrick said: \u2018It\u2019s not about what I like or what I do not like. It\u2019s not in my control.<\/p>\n

\u2018Everything has gone so well, we know the situation and where we are. I am happy with where we are at the moment and we still want to get better.<\/p>\n

\u2018Let\u2019s see what happens next. At this moment in time, it\u2019s not something I am thinking about.\u2019<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s final three Premier League games are against Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.<\/p>\n
