The pair were both substituted either side of half-time after picking up injuries at Stamford Bridge in the Blues’ 3-1 defeat on Monday evening. Just before the interval, Derry clashed heads with Zach Abbott, earning his team a penalty in the process.

Following a lengthy halt in play, the 18-year-old winger was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, bringing a disappointing end to his first start for Chelsea. Midway through the second half, Sanchez collided with Morgan Gibbs-White. He and the Forest midfielder were both taken off, each departing the field wrapped in bandages. Speaking to the press, McFarlane said: “We’re hearing positive signs from Jesse and Rob. I hope the Forest players are okay as well. He performed well on the pitch but there are more important things to focus on right now.”

Ahead of the pre-match press conference, Chelsea released a statement about the debutant. In an official announcement shared across their social media channels, the club wrote: “Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following his first-half substitution during today’s #PL game against Nottingham Forest.

“Jesse is conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks. We wish him a speedy recovery and thank the medical staff for their swift response.”

Monday’s defeat to Forest at Stamford Bridge marks the Blues’ sixth consecutive Premier League loss. Speaking to Sky Sports, McFarlane added: “Really disappointing results and performance. Agree that in the first 15 minutes we weren’t good enough.

“We gave two goals away, which you can’t do against a side like Nottingham Forest, who are a very good side but also fighting for their lives. I do think that set the tone.”

Also addressing Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher labelled Chelsea as ‘broken’. The former Liverpool defender said: “It’s shocking and it comes from the top. There’s five or six really top players on the pitch today and they’ve been beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team.

“Less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners. There’s no connection between the players and the staff, the players and the fans.

“In some ways, it’s a good thing because it tells you that football isn’t just all about spending money, buying players and this revolving door. It’s about creating togetherness and there’s nothing there. They look like a broken football club right now.”

Carragher went on to say of Forest: “Vitor Pereira has done a brilliant job – he did similar at Wolves when he first came in. I probably thought European football was a problem initially, balancing it with staying in the Premier League, but now it has brought them onto the cusp of something really special.”

Calum McFarlane has given an update on Jesse Derry and Robert Sanchez following Chelsea’s loss…

[4

post-4011","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
