Calum McFarlane defended Chelsea\u2019s players in his press conference again today \u2013 but his words are so far from reality.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n If you enjoy Chelsea News coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.<\/em><\/p>\n Speaking after Chelsea\u2019s defeat to Nottingham Forest yesterday, interim manager Calum McFarlane defended his team\u2019s efforts:<\/p>\n \u201cI know the group, I\u2019ve known them for a little while now and they are driven,\u201d the caretaker said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey want what\u2019s best for themselves, they want what\u2019s best for this club and we\u2019re going to do everything we can to try and win every single game we can from now to the end of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n Of course it\u2019s McFarlane\u2019s natural position to defend the effort the players put in. But what he doesn\u2019t seem to realise is that by claiming they\u2019re all trying their hardest, he\u2019s making the bad results harder to take.<\/p>\n If they\u2019re all doing their best and losing, what do we conclude? That they\u2019re all terrible players?<\/p>\n What makes it worse is that everyone watching these games can see that nobody<\/em> is putting in full effort. So we\u2019re just inclined to stop taking the interim coach seriously. Given he\u2019s likely not going to be around the first team beyond the end of this season, he doesn\u2019t have to worry about keeping players happy.<\/p>\n He should use his privileged position to call out some of those who deserve it, not protect them.<\/p>\n Another bleak part of a dreadful afternoon was Jesse Derry getting taken off injured after a horrible clash of heads.
