The Reds won 3-1, as Taiwo Awoniyi was the star of the show for Vítor Pereira’s team, directly partaking in all three of Forest’s goals in a dominant performance.

The Nigerian international broke the tie in a stunning way with a powerful header just 98 seconds into the game. Then Malo Gusto fouled him, giving Forest a penalty in the 15th minute. Igor Jesus stepped up and calmly took the penalty kick, putting the visitors in charge early in the first half.

Chelsea got a chance to get back into the game just before the break when 18-year-old Jesse Derry, who was making his debut, won a penalty after a terrible collision with Zach Abbott. However, Matz Sels made a great save to keep Cole Palmer’s effort from 12 yards out. Speaking afterwards, Sels said:

“It was a good moment, just before half-time. They were coming back into the game and it was more difficult then. I’m happy to help the team at a crucial moment. The win is massive for us. Still three games to play, not yet done, but we’re almost there now.”

Morgan Gibbs-White came on at halftime and made an immediate difference, setting up Awoniyi’s second goal just seven minutes into the second half. Joao Pedro’s acrobatic overhead kick, which was his 20th goal of the season, came late in the game, but it didn’t make the home fans feel any better.

Chelsea have now gone six league games without a win, which is their longest such streak since 1993. They are still in ninth place, three points behind Brentford in seventh. Next Saturday, they will have to go to Anfield to play Liverpool, which will certainly be a tough game for them.

Forest Eye Historic European Final as They Prepare for Villa Second Leg

Nottingham Forest’s amazing comeback shows no signs of slowing down. Vítor Pereira’s team goes into the second leg of the Europa League semi-final on Thursday at Villa Park with a 1-0 lead from the first leg, thanks to Chris Wood’s penalty kick.

Forest’s unbeaten streak has now reached 10 games in all competitions, the longest since a 13-game streak in January 2016. They are tantalisingly close to their first European final in 46 years, which would bring back memories of Brian Clough’s back-to-back European Cup wins in 1979 and 1980.

Unai Emery’s Villa, on the other hand, are still a tough and dangerous opponent. The Spaniard’s experience in the Europa League makes them a serious threat over two legs, and the second leg on Thursday will be hotly contested.

[4

post-4605","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
