The fans are clearly frustrated. It is not a rare sight to see them walk out of games early these days. It is happening pretty much every week now. And for understandable reasons.

Chelsea have lost six games on the trot in the Premier League. They could not even beat the second-string side of Nottingham Forest at the weekend. On the contrary, they were soundly defeated, 3-1, at Stamford Bridge.

This ‘project’ is going nowhere. BlueCo do not need to ‘tweak’ things, they need to completely revamp them.

They came into the club in 2022 and tried to reinvent the wheel. But the game has a way of humbling you. And one can only hope that BlueCo have learned their lesson. Because if they have not and still believe their idea is going to work, you can only wonder what kind of failures will wake them up.

Wayne Rooney gives reality check to Chelsea owners

Wayne Rooney is someone who knows what it takes to be successful as a youngster. He was considered among the best players in England while he was still a teenager.

So, he will have a good idea about what some of these Chelsea youngsters need to go on and attain that world-class level. And it does not seem like it is what they are being provided at Stamford Bridge right now.

Rooney did not mix his words when he described what is going on at Chelsea at the moment and why players should not sign long-term contracts with the club. According to BBC Sport, Rooney said:

“The money they spend and how they try and operate is absolutely crazy. For a player, you don’t want to be tying yourself in for that long at that club. It’s madness.

“Experience is key to any successful team and they have very young players who can be world class but when it’s tough you need to draw on your reserves and when you have been in those moments before, a lot of those players haven’t been through that and they have no experienced players to guide them through.

“With the owners, I’d put a bet on that they don’t know too much about football. They are very good business people but there’s no one there to give them guidance on football.”

Will Chelsea change this summer?

There have been whispers of Chelsea changing their ways this summer, or at least tweaking them. There have been suggestions that they will look for a top manager and proven players.

But what fits that description in BlueCo’s eyes. As we all know this ownership has their own way of seeing these things, that might not fit conventional footballing wisdom.

Would someone like Andoni Iraola go down as a top manager? Would someone be considered a proven player just because he has spent a few years in the Premier League?

It will depend on exactly what the approach is. There is going to be a difference between hiring Xabi Alonso and someone like Marco Silva, who has done an extremely good job at Fulham but is not a proven winner at the highest level. There is going to be a difference between signing Alessandro Bastoni and a centre-back from a relegation-contending side, just because they have a few years of experience in the Premier League.

Sourav Mahanty has covered teams like Chelsea, Celtic, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and more over a career that has now lasted a decade.

His work has been featured on Sports Illustrated, Athlon Sports, SB Nation, FanSided, The Sportster and aggregated through Bleacher Report and NewsNow.

Outside of football, he is also interested in basketball, cricket and professional wrestling.

View all articles →

[4

post-5151","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
