The Club Brugge defender has emerged as one of the most highly rated young centre backs in European football following an impressive campaign in Belgium and the Champions League.

At just 21 years old, Ordóñez has already built a reputation for composure on the ball, recovery pace and physical dominance in defensive duels. Chelsea’s recruitment team are believed to be strong admirers of his profile, particularly because he combines athleticism with confidence in possession, something increasingly important in Enzo Maresca’s system.

His performances this season have only increased interest from across Europe. So far during the 2025 and 2026 campaign, Ordóñez has made 28 appearances for Club Brugge, scoring three goals and playing more than 2,200 minutes across all competitions. He has also featured heavily in the Champions League, registering ten appearances in Europe while maintaining a passing accuracy above 92 percent.

Chelsea are expected to strengthen at centre back despite already having several young options in the squad. Injuries and inconsistency have created uncertainty around the long term partnerships at the back, and the club see Ordóñez as a player with the potential to become one of the Premier League’s leading defenders over the next few years.

One factor working in Chelsea’s favour is their growing South American connection within the squad. The success of players such as Moises Caicedo has helped make Stamford Bridge an increasingly attractive destination for emerging Ecuadorian talent. Ordóñez is also viewed as someone who could adapt quickly to the physical demands of English football because of his aggressive style and strong aerial ability.

[4

post-5182","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chelsea
["GET
