Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has hit out at Arsenal\u2019s squad for \u2018over-celebrating\u2019 their Champions League semi-final win over Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n

With the scoreline level at 1-1 after an absorbing first leg in Madrid, Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal to send the undefeated Gunners through on a famous night at the Emirates.<\/p>\n

It means the north Londoners will be competing in a Champions League final for only the second time in the club\u2019s history later this month, two decades on from the side\u2019s painful defeat to Barcelona under Arsene Wenger in 2006. <\/p>\n

Only Paris Saint-Germain, the holders, stand between Arsenal and the prestigious trophy, with Luis Enrique\u2019s men seeing off Bayern Munich in his year\u2019s other heavyweight semi-final.<\/p>\n

With Arsenal\u2019s hopes of a historic double still intact, the significance of the moment was not lost on Mikel Arteta and his players \u2013 who soaked up the occasion with supporters in jubilant scenes after the full-time whistle on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The wild celebrations did not go down with everyone, though, including Wayne Rooney, who suggested Declan Rice and Co had perhaps gone a little over the top with their reaction.<\/p>\n

\u2018They haven\u2019t won it yet, I think the celebrations are a little bit too heavy. Celebrate when you win\u2026but no, they deserve it,\u2019 the ex-Manchester United and England forward said on Prime Video\u2019s coverage of the second leg.<\/p>\n

Rooney\u2019s former England team-mate Terry echoed these remarks as he took to TikTok to give his thoughts on the two compelling semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Despite his infamous full-kit celebrations after being forced to sit out the 2012 final, the ex-Chelsea skipper insisted Arsenal\u2019s reaction was \u2018a little bit too much\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve been looking forward to this game all week, especially after the poor game of football last night (between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid),\u2019 Terry told his followers while watching PSG\u2019s second-leg victory over Bayern.<\/p>\n

\u2018But fair play to Arsenal on making the Champions League final.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2018What a game, what a start to the game this was tonight. How PSG have still got 11 men on the pitch I do not know. <\/p>\n

\u2018How PSG have not given away a penalty I do not know. It stinks of Chelsea versus Barcelona 2009\/10 at Stamford Bridge where we should have had four or five penalties at least, but great game of football.<\/p>\n

\u2018By the way, Arsenal way over-celebrated. Far too much for me.<\/p>\n

\u2018Yeah, you\u2019re excited because you make the Champions League final, but over-celebrated a little bit too much for me.\u2019<\/p>\n

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Arsene Wenger took a different view, defending how Arteta\u2019s squad had celebrated and describing their reaction to such an important win as \u2018absolutely normal\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think Arsenal wanted wanted it a bit\u00a0more than Atleti and they were more decisive in the duals,\u2019 Wenger \u2013 Arsenal\u2019s manager in the club\u2019s only other appearance in a final \u2013 said on beIN SPORTS.<\/p>\n

\u2018We said before the game that to go to the\u00a0final\u00a0they needed to be strong defensively and they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0concede\u00a0a goal tonight.<\/p>\n

Was Arsenal’s reaction over the top?<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\u2018They\u00a0played\u00a0a team who for 45 minutes absolutely needed to score a\u00a0goal\u00a0and they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0give them a chance.<\/p>\n

\u2018I believe it\u00a0shows how strong Arsenal are\u00a0defensively\u00a0and how\u00a0disciplined they are, as well a bit the limitations of Atletico, who were not good enough in the final third.<\/p>\n

\u2018In the end\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0well-deserved\u00a0win for Arsenal,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no doubt they were the better team over the two legs.<\/p>\n

\u2018They\u00a0celebrate\u00a0well tonight which is\u00a0normal\u00a0but you want to focus already on the final and the next games.<\/p>\n

\u2018The\u00a0celebration\u00a0is\u00a0deserved\u00a0and happiness\u00a0is normal \u2013 absolutely normal \u2013 but the next step is to go to the final and win in.\u2019<\/p>\n
