Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola are the three names that are doing the rounds as the frontrunners for the Chelsea job. It would be safe to say that that is not a box-office list of managers. But there are more options out there hiring who would look like more of a statement on the part of BlueCo. Jose Mourinho falls under that category.<\/p>\n
A lot of fans seem to believe that Mourinho is finished as a top-level manager. Yet, he continues to be linked with the Real Madrid job.<\/p>\n
Also, his Benfica team are unbeaten in the Portuguese league this season. Unfortunately, they have drawn far too many games to be within touching distance of FC Porto. But let\u2019s not forget, that is a club that had to sack their previous manager in mid-September. Mourinho has done very well since taking over.<\/p>\n
Now, big opportunities are cropping up again. And Joe Cole seems to believe that Mourinho, his former manager at Chelsea, would be the best man for the Stamford Bridge job.<\/p>\n
According to The Sun, Cole said while talking about Mourinho taking the Chelsea job for the third time:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe best move the club could make now, a realistic move as well, is to go to Jose Mourinho. <\/p>\n
\u201cSay that this is what we can do, and just let the man take charge of the club. Just say, \u201crebuild my club for me, we\u2019re going to step back, you get us back on track.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGive him a long contract, and tell the players and the fans just to take the transition. <\/p>\n
\u201cTell the fans, \u201cWe\u2019ve given you what you want. Jose is in charge of bringing the players in. Jose is in charge of everything.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, the fans know where they stand, and the players know where they stand as a group. And then leave it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to take a few years. But I\u2019m pretty sure, in three years, Chelsea will be in a healthier position than they are now.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone\u2019s thinking he\u2019s finished, but there\u2019s a reason Real Madrid are looking at him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
So, not only does Cole want Mourinho to get the Chelsea job but he wants him to have full control over things as well. That would certainly be a complete U-turn on the part of BlueCo, if they do that.<\/p>\n
Not only would they be bringing in a well-established, big-name manager but also allowing him to run the club. And to be honest, that might be far too much to expect, even though it would probably improve things from where they are currently. <\/p>\n
Would Mourinho be the right pick for Chelsea at this point in time?<\/h2>\n
That is a very difficult one to predict, to be honest. On one hand, Mourinho has not delivered at a top club since he left Chelsea the last time around. And that spell might have done more harm than good as he was not able to get the best out of Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, two all-time Premier League greats who could have helped the Blues create a dynasty at Stamford Bridge if they had stayed on and developed there.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, we have seen someone like Carlo Ancelotti manage in the Premier League mid-table only to go on to Real Madrid and win a couple of Champions League titles. These top managers often thrive on the pressure and expectations. Mourinho might be the same.<\/p>\n
