Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak is in the frame to make his comeback for Liverpool’s vital Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday. Isak, 26, who has experienced a challenging debut season at the Reds owing to injuries, sat out last Sunday’s loss at Manchester United after sustaining a groin issue in training.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, the Sweden international could be available for Slot’s side to take on the Blues at Anfield this weekend, with Slot disclosing in his pre-match press conference that he trained alongside the squad on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Alex trained with us again yesterday for the first time,” Slot said on Friday afternoon. “All good. He did parts of it, hopefully he can do parts or everything today and we see how much we are going to use him.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Alongside providing an update on Isak, Slot discussed Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Florian Wirtz ahead of taking on Chelsea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Alisson has been absent for the last matches following a knee injury, while Mamardashvili stood in for the Brazilian but was carried off on a stretcher with his own knee problem in the victory at Everton.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Salah picked up a hamstring complaint against Crystal Palace last month, Konate was unavailable for training due to a personal matter and Wirtz has been poorly this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Alisson not yet, Giorgi today for first time,” the Dutchman, who has frequently appeared exasperated when questioned about Liverpool’s injury concerns this season, added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Mo is very very close like Ali. Ibou had a personal reason for not training on Wednesday but was yesterday and today and Florian was a bit unwell but trained yesterday as well.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Liverpool welcome Chelsea aiming to virtually guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League. Should Slot’s team defeat the Blues, they would establish a nine-point cushion above sixth-placed Bournemouth with three fixtures left to play.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Given the Reds possess a significantly superior goal difference, qualification for Europe’s premier club tournament would be practically assured.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Discussing the Reds’ objectives ahead of confronting Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford before the campaign concludes, Slot continued: “Usually goes hand in hand, good performance leads to results.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The first and main aim is to qualify for the Champions League and we have shown this season we need a good performance to get results.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The opposite has happened where we’ve had good performances and not a good result, and we’ve not often had a bad performance and a good result. We usually need a good performance to win a game.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
