{"id":7497,"date":"2026-05-12T08:03:51","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=7497"},"modified":"2026-05-12T08:03:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:03:51","slug":"xabi-alonso-preference-between-liverpool-and-chelsea-emerges-dreams-of-managing-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playball.com.ng\/?p=7497","title":{"rendered":"Xabi Alonso preference between Liverpool and Chelsea emerges \u2013 \u2018Dreams of managing there\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div><!-- Article Start --><\/p>\n<p>As Chelsea contact Xabi Alonso to become the Blues\u2019 new manager this summer, a Spanish report has claimed that the former Real Madrid boss \u2018dreams\u2019 of returning to Anfield and taking charge of Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alonso<\/strong> is without a managerial role at the moment, having parted company with Madrid in January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The former <strong>Liverpool<\/strong> midfielder was appointed as the Madrid manager only at the end of last season, but he could not even last a full campaign at Estadio Bernabeu.<\/p>\n<p>However, Alonso may not be out of work for long, with <strong>Chelsea<\/strong> keen on hiring the Spaniard as their manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chelsea have already made \u2018contact\u2019 with Alonso<\/strong> and have held talks with him.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso is open to taking a new managerial role this summer, and Chelsea believe that he would be a perfect candidate to take the team forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Arne Slot reaches decision on leaving Liverpool for Ajax after \u2018enquiry\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Xabi Alonso prefers Liverpool to Chelsea<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Liverpool have also been linked with Alonso for a while<\/strong>although all signs indicate that <strong>Arne Slot will stay in charge at Anfield<\/strong> next season.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>AS<\/em>Chelsea have made an \u2018offer\u2019 to Alonso, who is \u2018listening\u2019 to it.<\/p>\n<p><em>AS<\/em>though, has claimed that Alonso \u2018dreams\u2019 of managing Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to the report, until and unless Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), decide to sack Arne Slot, that is not going to happen.<\/p>\n<p><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBNWaHcYw8\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The report has noted: \u2018What seems to be stalled is the\u00a0Liverpool situation. Slot\u2019s season has been unremarkable, but the\u00a0Premier League\u00a0title won last year gives him enough credit to remain in the job beyond the summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: Top 10 available managers: Alonso, Maresca, Xavi wait for summer moves<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Needless to say,\u00a0Xabi\u00a0has a very strong connection to\u00a0Anfield\u00a0and dreams of managing there someday, but for that to happen, the Liverpool job needs to become available, and right now that doesn\u2019t seem very likely.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Chelsea\u00a0hope to capitalise on this situation\u00a0to cast their net for the highly sought-after 44-year-old manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Many at\u00a0Stamford Bridge\u00a0believe they can pull it off, but it\u2019s also possible that\u00a0Xabi\u00a0will wait a while until more attractive options emerge.
