Jamie Redknapp believes Pep Guardiola\u2019s passionate \u2018team talk\u2019 for Crystal Palace stars will likely have fallen on deaf ears given many of those players will be rested for the side\u2019s crunch match with Arsenal.<\/p>\n

Manchester City swept past Palace in a comprehensive 3-0 victory to ensure their title battle with Arsenal will go down to the wire, with just two matches remaining of the campaign.<\/p>\n

Phil Foden produced one of his finest performances of the season at the Etihad, assisting both of City\u2019s opening goals through Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush, before Savinho finished off a flowing team move to put the contest to bed in the 84th minute.<\/p>\n

The result saw City close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to two points again ahead of the side\u2019s trip to Bournemouth next Tuesday night. Guardiola\u2019s men then wind up their season with what could be pivotal clash at home to Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

Top-of-the-table Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to move five points clear again when they host lowly Burnley on Monday evening, before travelling to Selhurst Park to lock horns with Palace six days later.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the final whistle at the Etihad, an animated Guardiola was seen speaking with a number of Palace\u2019s first-team stars, including Chris Richards, Jefferson Lerma, Maxence Lacroix and Adam Wharton.<\/p>\n

This is not out of the ordinary for the City boss, whose post-match chinwags with opposition players have become something of a tradition \u2013 behaviour he has previously joked is \u2018for the cameras\u2019 and his \u2018ego\u2019.<\/p>\n

But addressing the pictures in the Sky Sports studio, Redknapp speculated that there may have been a little more meaning in Guardiola\u2019s words than usual given the seismic ramifications of Palace\u2019s final-day encounter with Arsenal.<\/p>\n

\u2018City just have to keep going and hope there\u2019s a little bit of pressure on Arsenal, a few doubts across their minds and they struggle,\u2019 the ex-Liverpool, Tottenham and England midfielder said.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think Burnley will be straightforward (for Arsenal) but Crystal Palace\u2026 I watching Pep at the end of the game and he was certainly giving them a team talk and a half, trying to get them going for that game.<\/p>\n

\u2018He was very, very animated. We always see him maybe going up to one or two players.<\/p>\n

\u2018But he\u2019s like, \u201cJefferson (Lerma), listen, in midfield, you\u2019ve got to make sure you get close to Declan Rice\u201c\u2026 \u201cYou, (Maxence) Lacroix, you\u2019ve been brilliant this season, keep going! If you keep doing good I\u2019ll sign you!\u201d\u2026 \u201cAdam (Wharton), you control that midfield!\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

However, Redknapp reminded City fans that some of those players collared by Guardiola may actually be rested for the Arsenal showdown given Palace face Rayo Vallecano in the Europa Conference League final just three days later.<\/p>\n

\u2018The thing is, most of these players won\u2019t be playing I would have thought because they\u2019ll be rested,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n

\u2018That\u2019s my feeling anyway, they\u2019ve earned that right.\u2019<\/p>\n

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates gave City supporters something to cling onto as she recalled how \u2013 back in 2021 \u2013 Oliver Glasner went with a full-strength team in the Bundesliga just four days out from Eintracht Frankfurt\u2019s Europa League final victory.<\/p>\n

\u2018Maybe, who knows? You want to keep players active and playing,\u2019 Redknapp responded.<\/p>\n

\u2018There will be one or two, he\u2019s a very measured manager. He\u2019ll make sure if people need the game\u2026 because obviously with sports science now you understand who needs to play and who doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u2018But if there\u2019s any risk whatsoever then he won\u2019t take that chance because it\u2019s such a big game for the club.\u2019<\/p>\n

Facing the media at his post-match press conference, Guardiola applauded Palace\u2019s performance and singled out Foden for special praise after what has been a difficult season for the England international.<\/p>\n

\u2018This type of game, low block, Palace defend so well,\u2019 he told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u2018They did similar in the final of the FA Cup last year, defended really well with transitions and you need quality, spark, talent, vision \u2013 something that is not on tactical boards, meetings, videos, training.<\/p>\n

\u2018He (Foden) receives the ball there in the small spaces and creates something that only good players can deliver. I\u2019m really pleased for him.\u2019<\/p>\n
