James Maddison\u2019s reaction to Tottenham Hotspur\u2019s controversial draw with Leeds United has now sparked further debate, with a former referees\u2019 chief claiming the Spurs midfielder should face action from the FA.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 1-1 draw between Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United on Monday night was another frustrating result for the Lilywhites, who missed a golden opportunity to move four points clear of 18th-placed West Ham United.<\/p>\n

Tottenham took the lead early in the second half after Mathys Tel scored a stunning goal, but Spurs were pegged back soon after when the Frenchman quickly turned from hero to villain by giving away a cynical foul in the box, which saw Leeds awarded a penalty that Lewin converted.<\/p>\n

However, late in the game, James Maddison \u2013 who only recently returned from a long-term injury that kept him out for over a year \u2013 had a penalty appeal of his own. The referee and VAR waved away the claims after ruling that Lucas Nmecha got a touch on the ball before Maddison went down in the box.<\/p>\n

Tottenham star James Maddison could face FA charge<\/h2>\n

The Tottenham attacking midfielder was clearly frustrated with the decision and later took to social media to vent his feelings.<\/p>\n

Spurs Web subsequently revealed Maddison\u2019s comments regarding the referees and VAR, with the midfielder of the opinion that officials are \u201cpetrified\u201d to make decisions.<\/p>\n

Former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett has now suggested the England international could soon hear from the FA. <\/p>\n

Speaking to Football Insider about Maddison\u2019s social media post and whether it questions the integrity of the officials, Hackett said: \u201cThis post will be reviewed by the FA Disciplinary Department, which will determine if it brings into question the integrity of the referee.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they decide that it does, he will be written to and asked for his observations, which then may result in a charge, and if found guilty, may result in a fine or suspension.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my opinion, it does question the match official\u2019s integrity, and he should be charged, but watch this space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spurs cannot afford to lose Maddison again<\/h2>\n

Maddison has only just returned to first-team action, and the last thing Tottenham will want is for him to be sidelined again at this stage of the season.<\/p>\n

As things stand, Spurs have two games left \u2013 an away clash with Chelsea and a home fixture against Everton.<\/p>\n

Tottenham will certainly be hoping Maddison is available for both matches as they continue their fight for Premier League survival, with West Ham breathing down their necks.<\/p>\n
